A comparative study of women environmental defenders’ antiviolent success strategies

This research advances knowledge on the understudied topics of violence against women and their contributions to ecological movements through a multiple case study analysis 25 defenders listed in EJAtlas, an environmental conflict database. Women’s mobilization is often constrained within cultural contexts limiting them gendered spaces roles punishing with violences. Women defenders’ distinctly violent experiences thus inform perspectives, narratives, advocacy. assert authority achieve movement success by emphasizing aspects identity despite unevenly faced barriers, brutality, burdens. These multi-faceted tactics contribute emancipation beyond just communities dismantling hegemonies while promoting alternative, inclusive, antiviolent visions justice.
